Corwen

After years of hard work the line finally reached Corwen in 2014. There is currently a temporary platform to the east of the town. The permanent station platform is being constructed a little further west, nearer the centre. At the moment when the train reaches Corwen it comes straight back after allowing people to get off/on. As mentioned under Carrog, there is a longer stop at Carrog on the RETURN journey.

If you wish to have a look around Corwen you will find a cluster of independent shops, a couple of pubs and a cafe or two. Please note that when there is only one train running there is a gap of over 2 hours between trains. When there are 2 trains running the gap is just over 1 hour.

Corwen Museum is worth a visit. It is open 10.30 to 3.30 except Tuesdays and Thursdays, and features the history of the town and the railway. The original station building to the west side of town now used by Ifor Williams Trailers but it is very much recognisable as a Victorian station building.

Corwen Manor, opposite the museum, houses a candle factory, sells fishing tackle, and has a cafe. Closed Wednesdays.

You could have a look at the ancient parish church of St Mael and St Sulien, and you couldn’t fail to notice the impressive statue of Owain Glyndwr in the town square.

The area is a walker’s paradise. The riverside walk is popular with dog walkers. There’s the walk to Pen Y Pigyn hill viewpoint, or the hike to Caer Drewyn hill fort. For the more adventurous you could walk over the hills or take the back lane to Carrog (not by the A5!). Again OS Explorer map 255 is a must.

Corwen station is manned on most days and staff will be able to provide directions and/or more information.
