1960’s Weekend

1960’s WEEKEND

3rd and 4th August 2024

We’re delighted to welcome the much-loved 1960’s Weekend back to our events calendar for 2024.

Dig out your flares or mini-skirt ready to sample the atmosphere of the 1960s on a Welsh branch line! Our ’60s Weekend will be held on the 3rd and 4th August 2024 and will be an action-packed weekend for everyone.

The 1960s were a changing time for the Railways with the phasing-out of Steam and the introduction of Diesel and Electric services, as well as the publication of the ‘Reshaping Of British Railways’ Report, which recommended the closure of many rural lines including what is now the Llangollen & Corwen Railway.

We are recreating the British rail network as it was in the 1960s, with an intensive timetable operated by Steam and Diesel trains, and the scenic Diesel Railcar.
We are encouraging everyone to dress-up in their best retro clothing and to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and ambience of the decade! Look out for vintage cars and watch the porters loading goods onto our trains. You may even witness angry protests about the line’s pending closure. Hop on our vintage rail-replacement Crosville bus to take a circular tour from Corwen.

Take the controls of our Class 08 Shunter at Corwen with our Driver-for-a-Fiver experience*, offering a unique hands-on opportunity for enthusiasts.  Age restrictions apply.

Additionally, browse the various stalls at Llangollen Station for vintage treasures and railway memorabilia.

Come on down to our Saturday Night Dance at Llangollen station and sample our Real Ale Bar. A DJ and Live Band will be performing the best hits of the bygone era.  An evening rail service will be in operation to transport ticketholders to and from the dance.

*Driver-for-a-Fiver tickets can be purchased on the day.

*If you wish to attend our Evening Dance, tickets need to be booked separately.
