THE START OF OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Guest Loco Announcement for Branchline Gala

2025 sees the Railway celebrate 50 years since the Flint & Deeside Railway Society rented an empty, derelict Llangollen station from Denbighshire County Council, moving their small collection of locomotives and rolling stock to the station yard, which was being used as a car park. It is also the 200th Anniversary of public railway transport. We have an exciting calendar of events lined up to celebrate these historic occasions

We will start between April 11th to 13th & September 12th to 14th with Branchline Gala, a spectacular line up of locomotives in use at our Branchline Gala. This will include “Austin 1” , the very first locomotive to operate on the preserved Llangollen railway in 1981. We are also welcoming 6880 Betton Grange back to Llangollen. The frames for this exciting new-build engine were laid at Llangollen in 1998 and her owning Society were based with us for many years. Many of our working volunteers and supporters cannot wait to see the 81st Grange run on the railway for the first time. This event is likely to be very popular and discounted advanced tickets are already available to purchase on our website. Please note that 6880 will only be with us for a short period, so anyone wishing to ride behind the loco is strongly encouraged to attend the gala.  Gala tickets can be purchased here www.llangollen-railway.co.uk/branchline-gala

Starting in March, we have a series of six Pioneering Engineering talks at Llangollen Station and you can buy tickets for the first three here www.llangollen-railway.co.uk/pioneering-engineering-talks

Also watch this space for some 50th Anniversary souvenirs, which will be on sale in Llangollen Station Shop during the 2025 season. This includes a pin badge, beanie hat and a superb limited edition 6 wheel OO scale tank wagon, specially re-liveried for us by local manufacturer Dapol.
