Leave a Legacy: Making or Amending Your Will

The Llangollen & Corwen Railway has always depended on the generosity of its supporters. One of our most significant funding sources is the thoughtful inclusion of the railway in a Will.

Having a Will is essential to ensure your estate is distributed according to your wishes, benefiting your loved ones and the causes you care about. We highly recommend consulting a solicitor to draft your Will; it is an affordable way to ensure your wishes are clearly articulated.

When creating or updating your Will, please consider leaving a legacy to the Llangollen Railway Trust. Your contribution will help preserve our cherished heritage for future generations to enjoy.

If your estate surpasses the government’s Inheritance Tax threshold (currently £325,000 for an individual), a 40% tax applies to the amount exceeding this limit. However, gifts to charities are generally exempt from Inheritance Tax and are typically deducted from your estate before the tax is calculated. For more information on Inheritance Tax liabilities, please visit www.hmrc.gov.uk.

It is also common for families to request donations to a specific charity instead of flowers at funerals. This is a meaningful way to honour your commitment to the Railway.  If you wish your family and friends to remember you in this manner, please request that donations be made to the Llangollen Railway Trust (Registered Charity 1046614).

To ensure the railway can utilise your generous gift most effectively, please avoid placing restrictions on your bequest. This flexibility allows the Llangollen Railway Trust to allocate funds where they are most needed, whether for repairing a structure or overhauling a locomotive.
